Money Then and Now


Money has a long history. But as far as the means of payment back then are concerned, they are very primitive and would not hold up in any case in modern times. None of us remembers the origins and early development of money. We were not yet in this world.

But as far as I am concerned, I can nevertheless already be considered a bit of a memoirist. Thus, I would dare to at least appreciate the money that I or any of my parents or grandparents had the opportunity to pay.

I can say that the first coins were quite valuable. This is because I own a 120-year-old five-crown coin that now sells for 3,000 crowns in a coin store, and I can admire how well it has held its value. Or, I have hundreds and dozens of coins that are not doing so well but still sell for a few hundred dollars. Those are silver coins, and silver is one of the precious metals. If we are talking about gold coins of the time, their value would be even more significantly higher.

The coins and bills I used in my youth have little value today. Occasionally, a Fradkany 100 crown will sell for more than face value, or an avid collector will pay a little more for a Gottwald 100 crown, but other than that, they are not worth much. Well, they are engraved from common metal or printed on special paper, but even then they are not of any special value.And today. Today we can rejoice that money has a nominal value that is being lost through inflation. And I don\’t see that value ever recovering and rising. And worst of all is the most modern kind of money, money that exists only in virtual form, like a number on a bank statement. Imagine how much a collector could give you in the future with money you can\’t even hold in your hand. And theoretically, if some of the financial institution\’s computers go down, they could disappear
